Biocurator Educational Materials

The overall goal of the ClinGen Biocurator Working Group is to be a forum for education and training for all ClinGen biocurators. The Biocurator Educational Materials page provides links to videos of Biocurator Working Group calls on various topics, and links to additional useful websites and materials. We hope that you find these resources to be helpful.

What are the specific goals of the ClinGen Biocurator Working Group?
The goals of the Biocurator Working Group are to:

  1. Provide biocurators with continuing education on salient topics in gene and variant curation;
  2. Encourage an interactive dialog between biocurators for the purposes of troubleshooting problems and brainstorming solutions, sharing best practices, and comparing experiences;
  3. Serve as a mechanism for feedback from the biocurators regarding any issues with the curation process that may be appropriate for discussion with the ClinGen leadership.

When and how does the ClinGen Biocurator Working Group meet?
The Biocurator Working Group meets by teleconference on the second and fourth Thursday of every month, 12.00-1.00pm (US Eastern Time). You will receive an invitation, via the list-serv, with the agenda and a link for joining the call.

What is a typical agenda for a ClinGen Biocurator Working Group call?
Typically, there is a presentation on a main topic with the opportunity for questions and discussion. Topics vary widely, from databases and resources (such as Ensembl, UCSC Genome Browser, ExAC and gnomAD, DECIPHER, NCBI resources etc), to discussion of ClinGen frameworks and interfaces (gene curation SOP updates, Sequence Variant Interpretation Working Group updates, Gene Curation Interface, Variant Curation Interface, Allele Registry etc), to discussion of curation examples and challenges from ClinGen Expert Panels.

Do I have to attend the calls?
Attendance is optional but biocurators are encouraged to attend as many calls as possible.

What if I am unable to attend a call that I am interested in?
The calls are recorded if you are unable to attend but wish to listen. Links to recordings and slides will be posted to the list-serv, and on the Biocurator Working Group Resource page.
